Jr. - Int. Piping Designer / Drafter

Job Overview
Seeking motivated self-starters and team contributors, with 2-5 years’ progressive engineering experience within an EPCM / industrial plant environment, to join our team. Responsibilities:
  • Report to Department Head for assignments and administrative requirements, and to Discipline Lead for project-specific directives.
  • Comply with relevant codes, standards, and specifications to provide engineering design services.
    Perform tasks assigned by Discipline Lead; translate Client requirements into 3D models, drawings, and material lists.
  • Collaborate with Discipline Lead on project requirements and resolve design gaps (e.g., missing vendor drawings).
  • File documents per standards and incorporate review results into accurate, safe, and complete designs.
  • Review and check designs for compliance with standards; identify and report potential variances or changes.
  • Engage in continuing education to enhance knowledge and prevent obsolescence.
  • Create detailed drawings and 3D models; review vendor and discipline drawings for interferences.
  • Coordinate and communicate designs with other disciplines; participate in model reviews and ensure compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior personnel and seek help for complex issues.
  • Stay knowledgeable about industry, regulatory, and environmental requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Support estimate development and field engineering activities, including discipline-specific RFIs and construction support.
  • Actively participate in HAZOP/HAZID reviews, 3D model reviews, and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
  • Use 3D modeling software and scanning; conduct field visits to client facilities as needed.
  • Understand stakeholder expectations to contribute to project success.


Keys for success:
  • Familiarity and knowledge of petrochemical manufacturing environment an asset.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes (specifically ASME B31.3) and industry design practices in the Piping/Mechanical discipline.
  • Oil & gas experience within an established EPC / EPCM company with refinery, pipelines & facilities experience.
  • Working understanding of engineering deliverables and project delivery process.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written skills (tactful, diplomatic, and professional) for effective communication with all organizational levels; organized and dedicated team player with a Client service mindset.
  • Excellent time management skills with attention to detail in all areas of work; demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities to ensure project deliverables and timelines are met.
  • Strong knowledge of 2D CAD software and working knowledge of 3D modeling software (AutoPlant, Plant 3D, OpenPlant, etc.) and laser scanning and point cloud files.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Previous owner / operator – site-based experience – an asset.


Required:
  • 2 - 5 years’ experience.
  • Technical Diploma or Certificate from a recognized technology program; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Registration with applicable provincial governing body.
  • AutoCAD and / or MicroStation drafting software.
  • 3D design / drafting software (e.g. AutoPlant, Plant 3D, OpenPlant, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract.
